Use of international standards is increasingly relevant for national e-health development. The international standardization organizations strengthen their cooperation and work targeted on common functional areas. At the same time, the EU is strengthening its work for the common use of standards in Europe. In order to achieve a faster development of solutions using the standards that affect us, the Nordic countries have strengthened their cooperation on standardization through the Nordic Council of Ministers' work on e-health.

2022 publicerade Nordens Välfärdscenter och projektet Integrerad Vård och omsorg på distans (iHAC) rapporten Integrated Healthcare and Care through distance spanning solutions – for increased service accessibility.

This presentation will introduce the results of the joint Nordic PROTECT project (“Proactive health and welfare technology for Nordic users and societies”, 2021-2023) and discuss them with a future-oriented perspective. PROTECT has brought together a large group of Nordic researchers from several fields as well as stakeholders (altogether nearly 200 workshop participants from four countries). The new knowledge co-created in PROTECT contributes to understanding the specific contexts and life situations where proactive health and welfare technology (HWT) is expected to be increasingly applied in the Nordic countries. The new knowledge also encourages and enables further research on the topic. Sharing research-based knowledge about the similarities and differences in proactive HWT services, implementation, and policies – including challenges in proceeding from piloting to implementation – across the Nordic societies enables better overall understanding of the experiences and expectations of diverse users in the individual countries and in the region. This, in turn, will help improve policy interventions and innovations to enhance proactive and resilience-supporting HWT use and the quality of life and work of Nordic citizens and caregivers.
The Nordic Research Network on Health and Welfare Technology: who we are and what we do to co-create knowledge

The presentation will introduce a Nordic research network in health and welfare technology (HWT). The research network has around 80 members from all the Nordic countries and aims to consolidate knowledge, research, higher education, and experiences in health and welfare technology with a user perspective. The purpose of the presentation is to inform about ongoing activities and to link more researchers to the network. The network also wants to be a contributor with knowledge about HWT for the authorities in the Nordic countries.

Patient-accessible electronic health records (PAEHR) have the potential to empower patients, but their impact may vary between psychiatric and somatic patients due to unique sensitivities in medical notes. In Norway, all hospitals have implemented PAEHR since 2015. Despite ongoing debate, further research is needed on user experiences and perceptions in general health care, particularly psychiatry. In this lecture, we will explore the following topics from Norway’s perspective: 1) how the use of PAEHR differs between psychiatric and somatic patients, 2) the serious mistakes patients have perceived and their impact on each group, and 3) the implications for practice in the era of transparent EHR and new ways of thinking.

Every year, several million triages are performed in Sweden to evaluate and prioritize patients' medical needs. In the past, these assessments were conducted solely over the phone or at primary care centers, without any means of systematic evaluation. However, a groundbreaking shift is underway as Sweden digitizes its triage process, revolutionizing one of the most crucial processes in healthcare. Now, for the first time ever, patients' questions, responses, and advice can be analyzed systematically. The implications for patient safety and equity are profound, and it is essential to consider how this transformation affects vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and frail, who may not have access to digital tools. Join Jonathan Ilicki on a journey beyond the ordinary and gain unique insights into the pivotal role of triage in coordinating healthcare. Discover how digitization is transforming healthcare delivery in Sweden and shaping the future of medical care.

Presentation of the six years of experience in using mixed reality applications in planning liver and heart surgery at Oslo University Hospital. Description of research, development and implementation of clinical applications from image data to surgical strategies in 3D. It was initiated by clinicians based on clinical challenges to be fully compatible with clinical reality. Efficient workflow, fully integrated with hospital infrastructures cloud/browser-based with no need for specialized workstations.Ample experience is derived from surgical planning sessions for colorectal liver cancers and structural heart diseases. Not only limited to the most complex surgical cases. In pediatric heart surgery, holographic visualization brings enhanced 3D anatomical understanding of complex heart defects. It provides insight that reduces the risk of damaging critical structures in the surgical area. Holographic information impacts surgical plans in about half of the tested cases. In liver cancer surgery, holographic visualization brings anatomical overview and improves spatial understanding of internal anatomical structures in relation to the tumour. This is important when planning intricate surgical paths within the liver. Additionally, it better utilizes already available preoperative data to be used in surgical planning as an adjunct to the standard of care.Industrial collaboration has been vital in the establishment of minimum viable products as well as in establishing a start-up. This paved a path towards regulatory approvals and the distribution of applications for clinical use outside our hospital. We will present published and unpublished results from our department - where we have failed and succeeded and what we have learned in the process. Finally, we will provide a glimpse of the future trend in the current project and what is coming next.
