Artificial intelligence (AI) has been used to support decision making in the mental health domain for both healthcare professionals and patients on different levels in the healthcare systems and self-care services. AI has been included in several health applications such as predicting mental health problems, diagnostics, treatment plans, workflows, and other duties that require decision support. Understanding the use of AI tools and how it is applied for support decision making in the mental health would contribute in improving the design, development and implementation in practice. Further knowledge will also help benefit shaping person-centered care approaches when using AI tools by understanding the dynamics used nowadays in support decision making and how to include patients in the development of future processes and tools,It is unclear what types of decisions that AI tools most commonly participate in supporting in mental health, how these tools are applied, and whether its implementation is engaging patients in the process of decision making or not, this uncertainty may contribute in shifting the decision- making process towards more technology polarization and far from patient centeredness. Therefore, a scoping review is conducted to map the characteristics of research done on AI tools for supporting decision making in the mental health field to contribute to the body of knowledge regarding how decisions are supported. In the proposed lecture we will present our findings regarding the use of AI in mental health and reflections on support decision making.

Within Nordic cooperation and with funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers, a number of projects are underway as part of the Nordic Vision 2030 goals; The Nordic region will become the most sustainable and integrated region in the world. Some examples of ongoing and completed projects are presented during this session. Integrated Healthcare and care (iHAC) 2021-2024 is run by the Centre for Rural Medicine in Storuman Sweden and the Nordic Welfare centre. The project focuses on the citizen perspective in national and regional models for integrated management of healthcare and social care data. Five model regions are presented in the report Integrated Healthcare and Care through distance spanning solutions – for increased service accessibility as examples of how cooperation between regions and municipalities creates conditions for integrated healthcare and care. Nordforsk runs the more research-oriented project Nordic Commons with a focus on secondary use of health data for research. The NIP-Nordic Interoperability Project is a completed project that Nordic Innovation was responsible for with a focus on health data and innovation.THL in Finland runs the Finnish presidency project 2021-2023, World's Smoothest Cross-Border Mobility and Daily Life Through Digitalisation with a focus on e-prescriptions and Patient Summary. In 2021, the project published the report Baseline study of cross-border data exchange in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The project is partly a continuation of the project the Swedish E-health authority carried out in the Nordic project Care and care at a distance (VOPD) 2018-2021 with a focus on cross border e-prescriptions and patient summaries. The Nordic projects will be briefly presented and a reflection will be made on the assignments in view of the ongoing work within the European Health Data Space (EHDS).

In order to improve the conditions for clinical research in Europe and to stimulate multinational clinical trials, CTIS - clinical trial information system - has been developed. It is a platform that is ONE single entrance to the clinical trial application and includes both the drug application and ethical approval. Several years of preparatory work and a one-year transition period have ended and from February 1, 2023 CTIS has been put into use and is mandatory to use. CTIS has been built and improved in close cooperation with users (industry and academia) and national pharmaceutical authorities and EMA, the European Medicines Agency.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has great potential to transform healthcare, making it more efficient, equitable, and safe. There are hundreds of AI-based tools available on the market today, yet few get adopted into clinical practice because of numerous barriers and challenges. This talk provides an overview of these hurdles and suggests 26 considerations synthesized from the literature, interviews, and workshop with stakeholders who have experience with the process of trying to adopt AI-based tools into clinical practice. We believe that as the barriers and challenges to AI adoption are addressed and overcome, AI will inevitably have a lasting impact on improving healthcare for all.

To introduce regional implementation of technologies and digital services for well-being, ageing and care of older people at home in Finland in a governmental programme called ‘Smart Ageing and Care at Home’ (‘KATI’ for the Finnish Acronym) in 2021-2022. Technologies were acquired according to regional needs by usual procurement. In the workshop we present the Finnish model to implement technologies for ageing and care of older people at home. It was developed based on the experiences from the renewed service models in the regional projects. The model also include the technology solutions that the regional projects integratedinto their services. We will discuss how the model can be used in other regions. We will share experiences that we learned during the programme. The participants will get knowledge about well-working service models and how technologies have been implemented successfully, as well as remaining challenges to be overcome.

Measuring the real Impact of Healthtech in society by utilizing a unified metric. Could a metric like QALY provide us with a way forward?
Tisdag 23 maj 2023 14:00 - 14:30 F3

The introduction of healthtech solutions has proven so far, that it is having an impact by responding to the challenges that healthcare systems have in front of them - Democratization of care at a fraction of the cost. However, it is still challenging to assess the contribution each and every healthtech solution brings to society in an aggregated and unified way. Would a metric like QALY (Quality-Adjusted Life year) and its use in healthtech help tackle this challenge?Come and participate in a discussion, where we will share updated results of a test asking that same question, with a promising outcome. Could QALY be viable for evaluating healthtech solutions? What impact would it have? What do different stakeholders think about utilizing a metric to measure impact in healthtech?

Women's health technology (femtech) is a burgeoning industry that seeks to develop personalized health solutions for individuals identifying as female. From menstruation and maternal healthcare to longevity and chronic care platforms, the global femtech market is anticipated to be worth over $50 billion by 2025. Yet, most digital health companies entering the femtech market fail to prioritize three crucial aspects to their products and businesses: (i) accuracy, (ii) privacy and security, and (iii) scalability. This presentation provides a roadmap to the key legal and ethical challenges facing women's health companies, and offers solutions to ensure these companies build robust and internationally scalable businesses that are capable of driving long-term innovation in women's health.

Women have been historically excluded from healthcare research and women’s health issues still receive inadequate attention, yet women live more years in poor health and with disability.Digital transformation and a rapidly growing global FemTech market provide new opportunities to transform the lives of millions of women globally and contribute to a substantial social impact and economic gains. However, research on FemTech that provide robust evidence on its value is lacking. In this seminar, based on our ongoing research, we will discuss opportunities and challenges of FemTech and why a rigorous research agenda with targeted research funding is needed. We will also address research methods that include multi-stakeholder partnerships, methods of intersectionality research to address health inequities, and co-creation models to engage women in the co-design of technologies to ensure person-centered outcomes.
