How can we ensure that the ever-increasing amount of data in hospitals does not overload the backups, and that they can still be stored safely and without loss for many years to come?

Luminar Ventures is an early stage tech investor with several companies in the e-health segment including, Mindler, Health Integrator, Vården.se and Yazen. With this talk I would like to describe how we as early stage investors view the healthcare system and industry in Sweden, what we see needs to be done to improve on innovation that aims to improve quality, access, conditions for healthcare workers, personalized care and more.

Digital Health investments have significantly dropped from the peak of 2021. Many founders face challenges in fundraising, and there is an increase in internal bridge rounds. What does the global digital health investment landscape look like? How are the Nordic countries doing?

FHIR is changing the health IT landscape in many countries. Governments, care providers, healthtech companies and insurance companies are adopting FHIR to achieve affordable and accessible care, care quality and better outcomes, and efficient cross-institutional information exchange. Rien will explain for a non-technical audience what FHIR is, why it is relevant for anyone in the industry and how stakeholders are driving the adoption in a few example countries.

This presentation offers a perspective to some of the successes and failures in the Finnish ecosystem for sharing health data over the last 10 years.

The Nordic region is a strong market for digital health, due to the advanced healthcare systems, technological infrastructure and culture of innovation. With a focus on innovation, prevention, precision medicine and a strong research ecosystem, the Nordics offer fertile ground for digital health solutions to improve healthcare delivery, empower patients, and address the growing burden of chronic diseases. Delivery of nursing terminology in the digital age is essential to the provision of safe nursing care at a global, national and local level. The provision is fundamental to the delivery of multi-disciplinary care, where nursing information is critical. The requirement is therefore to ensure that clinical terminology in EHR systems is clinically correct, up to date and available for use. The formal collaboration between the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and SNOMED International seeks to deliver these aspirations, with an ongoing commitment to ensure the alignment of ICNP (International Classification of Nursing Practice) and SNOMED CT. The collaboration will provided clinically ensured nursing terminology within EHRs and that the data is available to support nursing research globally.

The healthcare sector often utilizes various methods to track patients' conditions, symptoms, and progress. A critical aspect of this tracking is the identification and documentation of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), which include symptoms like nausea and drowsiness caused by medications. These ADRs, typically categorized by severity and frequency in databases, require medical professionals to meticulously connect them to specific drugs, a process that demands considerable expertise and time. Given the complexity of drug interactions and the limited time available for thorough investigation, this crucial area often remains under-explored. Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerges as a pivotal tool in addressing these challenges, offering decision support to doctors in pinpointing the causes of ADRs and facilitating swift and accurate drug follow-ups. This presentation will delve into a research study from a Master's Thesis project at Karolinska Institutet, exploring AI's potential in identifying rare ADR cases and aiding physicians in efficient medication management.

We share our experiences and suggestions from translating the ContSys, i.e., ISO 13940:2015 System of Concepts to Support Continuity of Care. All chapters were translated into Estonian and published as a national standard in February 2023.

This study examines the availability of information on welfare technologies or people living with dementia in Sweden. We conducted a scoping review of 21 counties and 290 municipalities to assess the degree of information provided on welfare technologies. 

In the phase of growing pressures to improve both access and affordability of care, the obvious solution is to free up capacity by improving flow to reducing length of stay. Yet, despite significant efforts, hospitals around the world are struggling to achieve breakthrough results. The lecture presents a fresh perspective on how to solve this complex issue of in a simple manner. It tells the story of how hospitals have reached 10-20% reductions in length of stay within a matter of weeks, while being truly patient-centered and clinically led. How do we identify the typically small changes that drastically will improve patient flow through all pathways simultaneously?

Currently, an individual’s opportunities for privacy protection are limited by their digital skills and external factors such as illness, residence, and socio-economic status. Technological development in the field is happening very quickly, but coordination and common platforms are needed to increase accessibility. The HEIDA project have developed software examples using homomorphic encryption for end-to-end privacy protection. The technology enables processing of encrypted data and increase the individual’s opportunities for privacy protection in digital health, which can be of interest to health care decision makers and IT professionals.

Across Europe the demand for resources in the Health sector is growing faster than the supply, and there is a growing consensus that Digital Therapeutics Apps with their ability to reach a wide part of the population at scale, and in a cost efficient way, is part of the solution.
But development of medical grade apps, that have clinical evidence and satisfy the strictest quality standards is expensive, and vendors need to know how they can be adopted and reimbursed by the healthcare system, before they develop and deploy solutions that can benefit the patients.
SelfBack is an example of one of the few medical grade apps with clinical evidence. SelfBack takes part in the EU harmonisation work of Health Technology Assessments and in this session SelfBack will share their experience from different European countries, and give an overview of how the Swedish/Nordic market access, reimbursement and regulations compares to the rest of Europe from a manufactures point of view.

By combining the resources from both health - and social care, there are several benefits in both quality of care and efficiency. Johan will present the experience from the Dutch market, where this is a more common approach than in Sweden.

Successful AI deployment within healthcare relies on the trust and confidence of healthcare professionals.  Based on the findings of the NHS AI lab and Health Education England report on Healthcare workers’ confidence in AI, Dr Painter explores which key factors influence confidence in healthcare AI technologies.
