The potential of quality health and wellness apps in addressing European healthcare challenges such as an ageing population and chronic diseases putting pressure on healthcare budgets, unequal quality and access to healthcare services and shortage of health professionals, is widely recognized. Yet consensus on what makes a quality health app has been lacking. Patients, citizens and healthcare professionals do not have the means to recognize the quality health apps. Authorities struggle to efficiently assess health apps and manufacturers are faced with a multitude of frameworks and difficulties to increase uptake and reimbursement. All of the above inspired the European Commission to commission CEN-ISO/TS 82304-2:2021 "Health and wellness apps - Quality and reliability".

The presentation will introduce a Nordic research network in health and welfare technology (HWT). The research network has around 80 members from all the Nordic countries and aims to consolidate knowledge, research, higher education, and experiences in health and welfare technology with a user perspective. The purpose of the presentation is to inform about ongoing activities and to link more researchers to the network. The network also wants to be a contributor with knowledge about HWT for the authorities in the Nordic countries.

Electroencephalography (EEG) has recently gained popularity in user authentication systems since it is unique and less impacted by fraudulent interceptions. Although EEG is known to be sensitive to emotions, understanding the stability of brain responses to EEG-based authentication systems is challenging. In this study, we compared the effect of different emotion stimuli for the application in the EEG-based biometrics system (EBS). Initially, we pre-processed audio-visual evoked EEG potentials from the ‘A Database for Emotion Analysis using Physiological Signals’ (DEAP) dataset. A total of 21 time-domain and 33 frequency-domain features were extracted from the considered EEG signals in response to Low valence Low arousal (LVLA) and High valence low arousal (HVLA) stimuli. These features were fed as input to an XGBoost classifier to evaluate the performance and identify the significant features. The model performance was validated using leave-one-out cross-validation. The pipeline achieved high performance with multiclass accuracy of 80.97% and a binary-class accuracy of 99.41% with LVLA stimuli. In addition, it also achieved recall, precision and F-measure scores of 80.97%, 81.58% and 80.95%, respectively. For both the cases of LVLA and LVHA, skewness was the stand-out feature. We conclude that boring stimuli (negative experience) that fall under the LVLA category can elicit a more unique neuronal response than its counterpart the LVHA (positive experience). Thus, the proposed pipeline involving LVLA stimuli could be a potential authentication technique in security applications.

Presentation of the six years of experience in using mixed reality applications in planning liver and heart surgery at Oslo University Hospital. Description of research, development and implementation of clinical applications from image data to surgical strategies in 3D. It was initiated by clinicians based on clinical challenges to be fully compatible with clinical reality. Efficient workflow, fully integrated with hospital infrastructures cloud/browser-based with no need for specialized workstations.Ample experience is derived from surgical planning sessions for colorectal liver cancers and structural heart diseases. Not only limited to the most complex surgical cases. In pediatric heart surgery, holographic visualization brings enhanced 3D anatomical understanding of complex heart defects. It provides insight that reduces the risk of damaging critical structures in the surgical area. Holographic information impacts surgical plans in about half of the tested cases. In liver cancer surgery, holographic visualization brings anatomical overview and improves spatial understanding of internal anatomical structures in relation to the tumour. This is important when planning intricate surgical paths within the liver. Additionally, it better utilizes already available preoperative data to be used in surgical planning as an adjunct to the standard of care.Industrial collaboration has been vital in the establishment of minimum viable products as well as in establishing a start-up. This paved a path towards regulatory approvals and the distribution of applications for clinical use outside our hospital. We will present published and unpublished results from our department - where we have failed and succeeded and what we have learned in the process. Finally, we will provide a glimpse of the future trend in the current project and what is coming next.

Industry players, the for-profit organizations, are important stakeholders in global and European health and care systems. The profiles of these industry actors vary, as do their business models, resulting in diverse expectations and requirements when it comes to EU regulations in this domain. In this session, we aim to analyze the motivating and demotivating factors that influence industry players' engagement in adopting the upcoming European Health Data Space proposal. We will explore the impact on solution providers specializing in primary data usage, Electronic Health Records and Clinical decision support vendors. Additionally, we will examine the impact on the downstream market, particularly organizations investing long-term in clinical research. Furthermore, we will strive to determine whether industry representatives should actively participate in the EHDS implementation process or simply comply with the legislation once it comes into effect.

Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a serious inherited disease that causes high cholesterol from childhood and increases the risk of cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke. Unfortunately, many people with FH go undiagnosed.
FHabian is a digiphysical tool developed in Sweden to screen families for FH. The tool, developed by BCB Medical, makes it easy to invite all relatives of an index patient to be screened for FH. It enables seamless screening across healthcare regions, an overview of the number of people invited to screening and a number of people getting tested. It also provides an overview of the results and follow-up and communicates results of testing. FHabian has been in operation in the Stockholm Region since February 2021 and will soon expand to other regions in Sweden. With this innovative tool, it is hoped that more people with FH can be diagnosed and treated early, reducing their risk of serious cardiovascular events.
