This presentation provides a practical overview of implementing the OMOP CDM in a collaborative, pan-European oncology research setting and learnings from a specific study. Professor Åslaug Helland will present a case study from the DigiONE pilot project, where harmonized oncology data was used to evaluate overall survival (OS) in metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (mNSCLC) patients based on metastasis location. The study leveraged federated analysis across multiple European cancer centers, including Oslo University Hospital, to generate real-world evidence while preserving patient privacy.
This presentation is the third in a series of presentations given as an introduction to OMOP at Vitalis.

Virtual tests with simulated health care processes and synthetic data is a new complementary method to traditional testing of products, tools and systems. In this session we will describe Virtuality, a concept for virtual testing using synthetic data, digital sandbox environments and third-party applications to simulate health care processes. The concept enables early testing of digital systems and tools in a safe environment, allowing stakeholders from both academia, industry and public service to research, develop and prototype systems and tools before implementation. Virtuality helps with aspects such as addressing regulatory compliance, reduce
development costs, getting rid of bugs before going into clinical trials and perform testing before real data is accessible. The aim with the concept is that a broad group of practitioners should be able to use and benefit from the virtual environment and simulation of healthcare scenarios.

This panel discussion explores how a Nordic federated network can unlock the full potential of Nordic health data and strengthen Real-World Evidence (RWE) generation.Professor Kimmo Porkka from Helsinki University Hospital and founder of FinOMOP will introduce the session with a presentation on FinOMOP—a nationwide, population-based harmonized health data infrastructure in Finland, aiming for full coverage by 2026. Through collaboration with all five Finnish university hospitals and national registries, a large share of patient data (70%) is already mapped to OMOP CDM.Following his introduction, the panel will discuss how Sweden and other Nordic countries can build on FinOMOP’s success to leverage its high-quality health data and create a Nordic-wide federated research network. The discussion will explore lessons learned from existing federated networks, the steps Sweden should take to harmonize health data for secondary use, and which data sources should be prioritized for maximum impact. Can the Nordics be a global hub for pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, AI-driven healthcare innovators, and clinical trial sponsors seeking access to high-quality, real-time real-world data. This session concludes the four-part OMOP introduction at Vitalis, providing a forum for next steps, collaboration opportunities, and practical insights on Nordic OMOP adoption.

Digital health technologies and AI are transforming healthcare by improving access, enabling personalized care, and supporting preventive approaches, especially as Europe's ageing population increases pressure on healthcare systems. The EU's Digital Decade target aims for all citizens to have access to electronic health records by 2030.However, barriers such as low digital health literacy, poor evidence-based implementation, and inefficient integration hinder digital transformation. Low digital health literacy particularly affects the elderly and underserved, worsening health inequalities. Additionally, poorly designed solutions and limited training or resources can compromise efficiency, impact, and scalability.Digital health literacy is essential for achieving equity, as it influences individuals' health decisions and reduces disparities. The WHO highlights its role in addressing healthcare inequities, emphasizing the need to enhance digital skills to ensure inclusive healthcare transformation.Aims of this workshop:Demonstrate the importance of digital health literacy,Share key insights from the IDEAHL (Improving Digital Empowerment for Active Healthy Living) EU project,Discuss policy aspects as highlighted by the World Health Organization,Present experiences from case studies on digital clinical competence,Explore next steps to accelerate digital transformation in healthcare through enhanced digital health literacy and addressing health inequalities.
