The International patient Summary (IPS) is an extract of an electronic health record containing essential healthcare information to support cross-border and unscheduled patient care. The IPS also has the potential to be used in many other scenarios where a patient crosses health information systems, like travel between provinces/states, cities or organizations that use a different Health Information System. The implementation and support for the IPS comes from a commitment by the G7 and Global Digital Health Partnership. International standards organisations have come together to deliver on this commitment, with SNOMED International providing the free global set of clinical terms to support it's implementation. The development and expansion of the use of the IPS and the SNOMED free set is making a real difference to cross border care globally, and to interoperability specifically

Dermatologists are uniquely trained and experienced in managing all aspects of skin health, making them invaluable healthcare providers for individuals seeking treatment for dermatological concerns. Their medical training is to "see" and "remember" dermatology pathologies. During their lifetime they see about 200 000 dermatology pathologies. In 2018 we trained a deep neural network on 55,364 smartphone images of dermatology pathologies in 8 hours and used the artificial intelligence model in a primary care setting. Referrals to a dermatologist could have been prevented in 34% of cases, in 60% of the cases the AI model helped the primary care physician diagnose correctly and 92% of the primary care physicians loved the AI decision support tool.

By imposing more strict cybersecurity requirements, NIS2 aims to enhance the overall security posture of critical healthcare entities such as SaaS companies and the sensitive data they manage. This heightened focus on cybersecurity translates into increased protection for patient data, fostering trust and confidence in digital healthcare services. As SaaS companies adapt to the regulatory landscape, the resulting improvements in cybersecurity not only mitigate risks but also position these companies as trustworthy partners in the healthcare ecosystem. Patients benefit from knowing that their data is handled with the utmost care, fostering greater acceptance and utilization of digital healthcare services. Companies that proactively adapt to these changes strengthen their positions in the market, demonstrating a commitment to cybersecurity and the protection of sensitive healthcare information. Learn how to be among those that do, and how modern tools and technology cost-effectively support your security stance to live up to the requirements of NIS2.

After announcing the winner of the NORDeHEALTH 2024 benchmarking battle, we will end our session with a panel discussion. Christel Bengtner from Inera AB will reflect on the identified differences between patient portals - what are Inera's plans in these areas? What can be learned from other countries implementations of patients' online record access? Then our panel members from Sweden (Rose-Mharie Åhlfeldt and Christel Bengtner), Norway (Asbjørn Johansen Fagerlund), Finland (Sari Kujala), and Estonia (Anna Dudkina) will discuss partnership between research and practice - how do we ensure that the results from research can have an impact on practice? And how we ensure that researchers focus on issues of importance to practice?

When the Vitalis Conference takes place in May 2024 the new EU Regulation for the European Health Data Space (EHDS) may already have been finally adopted and entered into force. EHDS aims to empower the citizens when it comes to having control over their own health data. At the same time contributing to health care as well as research and innovation by providing access to relevant health data in an efficient and secure manner. Expected outcomes include for instance new innovative medical treatments and diagnostics, development of AI tools, and Precision Medicine, thus optimizing value from health data, for the benefit of individuals as well as society as a whole. However, there is no doubt that the implementation of EHDS also comes with substantial challenges of different kinds. This introduction will give an update on the status of EHDS, on preparative EU projects and describe EU and Swedish aspects on interoperability layers of legal, technical, semantic and organizational character.

InfCare HIV quality register and decision support tool has now been used nationwide in Sweden and in other Nordic countries for 20 years. In Sweden, a great amount of structured clinical data has been collected during the years and the Swedish HIV physicians have included the decision support system as an integral part of all patient-related workflows in the clinic. The system gives clinicians in their daily practice a holistic view of the patient’s state of health over time as well as real time access to key performance indicators regarding the care given at the clinic.Data from InfCare HIV has been used in numerous research projects and studies to support developing treatment guidelines and improve care pathways for HIV patients. BMJ Open recently published an article describing the first 20 years with the Swedish InfCare HIV cohort, Christina Carlander as the main writer.Beyond the InfCare HIV system, the presentation will cover some examples of similar clinical information management systems for other medical specialties.
