Enligt Barnkonventionen som nu också är Svensk lag har barn rätt till skola, fritid, lek och vila. Barns rättigheter riskeras när de är anhöriga, något som kan påverka dem under resten av livet.
I dag vet vi genom forskning att flera riskfaktorer kan undanröjas om barn uppmärksammas, får information och stöd när de behöver det. I ett BRA-samtal kan riskfaktorer upptäckas och friskfaktorer stärkas genom dialog med barnet. Det kan handla om att få information och svar på sina frågor, att få tala om sin oro men även att kunna koncentrera sig på skolan, få möjlighet att träffa vänner och ha fritidsintressen.
BRA-samtal är utformade för att stödja personal inom kommuner, landsting/regioner och idéburna organisationer i hur de kan gå till väga när de uppmärksammar barns rätt till information och stöd när de är anhöriga. Syftet är att öka barnets delaktighet och handlingsutrymme genom att möjliggöra för barnet att få komma till tals och uttrycka sina behov. Det kan bland annat innebära tidigt upptäckt av barn vars rätt till skola och fritid påverkas negativt. På lång sikt är målsättningen att stärka barnets utveckling och att förebygga psykisk och fysisk ohälsa.
