Elever med funktionsnedsättning har samma rättigheter som alla andra barn i skolan. De har rätt till en likvärdig utbildning av god kvalité och ska kunna vara med och bestämma om hur deras utbildning ser ut, ibland med hjälp av andra, till exempel sina föräldrar (Art 24 Funktionsrättskonventionen). Dessutom har de rätt till stöd utifrån sin funktionsnedsättning. Men ofta blir det ändå mycket svårare att komma till tals.
Förutom detta måste beslutsfattare ha både viljan och kunskapen för att på ett meningsfullt sätt ta till sig dessa barns och elevers åsikter. Hinder och barriärer ska undanröjas så att alla barn och elever får vara med och påverka skolans, kommunens eller statens beslut.
Vi ser ofta att elevers delaktighet endast når fram i skolan, men att den inte påverkar beslut på mer övergripande nivåer. Tillsammans med SPSM:s ungdomsnätverk, med ungdomsorganisationer ledda av unga med olika funktionsnedsättningar, utforskar Specialpedagogiska Skolmyndigheten hur delaktighet i skolan kan bli verklighet för fler elever och vårdnadshavare.
Vi använder oss både av svenska styrdokument och litteratur, och av arbete på europeisk nivå för att berätta hur du – som elev, vårdnadshavare, lärare eller beslutsfattare – kan se till att alla som vill får vara med och påverka sina utbildningsvillkor på ett meningsfullt sätt.
