WORKSHOP: Requirements for a Digital Therapeutics (DTx) Design and Trial Service: An Expert Workshop
Kerstin Denecke, Tobias Kowatsch
Tuesday May 23, 2023 15:45 - 17:15 R23
MIE: Special Topic: Caring is Sharing - exploiting value in data for health and innovation, English, On site only, Workshop, Advanced
It is of utmost importance to understand better the requirements for a Digital Therapeutics (DTx) design and trial service that supports the design of DTx and their efficient evaluation via feasibility studies, optimization trials (e.g., micro-randomized trials), efficacy or effectiveness trials (e.g., randomized controlled trials). This workshop has, therefore, the objective of gathering such requirements by applying the World Café methodology and discussing several complex care scenarios. We welcome participants with various backgrounds (e.g., technical, regulatory, medical, ethical) who bring in different perspectives.

Patient generated health data (PGHD) integrates patients` values and preferences into decision-making. Digitalization enables the integration of PGHD with electronic patient records. However, the lack of digital tools and applications hampers the use of PGHD. The purpose of this workshop is to gather the current situation in research and to form a transdisciplinary network of researchers.Discussion topics:1.Identification of the researchers, research projects and digital tools and applications for PGHD to build a network of researchers in the field.2.Experiences and perceptions of the research and practice regarding the digital tools and applications for PGHD3.Recommendations for future research topics in the field of PGHD.Keywords. digitalization, shared decision making, patient generated health dataYou are warmly welcome!

The workshop aims at improving the completeness and interoperability of data dictionaries through harmonization and standardization. First, the focus lies on the syntactic and semantic level in order to derive concrete technical specifications and implementations: Based on a comprehensive review of existing standards and data dictionaries in common systems, frequently used attributes were identified. In a second step, a "Minimal Information Model" is discussed, in which typical description fields are listed, terminologically cleaned and arranged in a modular system to enable easy use and user-specific expansion. Crosswalks to existing vocabularies and conventions or to international standards are to be discussed.Practical mapping of your Data Dicitonary is possible as a practical exercise!

Providing seamless health care to homeless people and refugees is a challenge. Established solutions of medical informatics for information sharing often do not work in these settings. Innovative solutions addressing not only technical issues, but also social and ethical issues are needed for building a trustful digital ecosphere for this vulnerable population. In this workshop, we want to explore the problem in more detail and discuss possible solutions from several perspectives. The workshop is intended to be the starting point to build a European expert consortium that is motivated to further work on this problem and to explore, develop, implement and evaluate possible solutions.

Digital health technologies (DHTs) have a great potential to help citizens and health professionals address preventable risk factors associated with diseases and illnesses that shorten human lives. DHTs can facilitate early detection, treatment, management of chronic conditions and support healthy ageing. DHTs also make it possible to shift from reactive to active and holistic delivery of health care services by empowering citizens in accessing their personal health data, monitoring, and managing their own health, based on their own preferences.

Each epidemic and pandemic is accompanied by an infodemic. The infodemic during the COVID-19 pandemic was unprecedented. Accessing accurate information was difficult and misinformation harmed the pandemic response, the health of individuals, and trust in science, governments and societies. WHO built a community-centered information platform, the HIVE, to deliver on the vision of ensuring that all people everywhere have access to the right information, at the right time, in the right format in order to make decisions to protect their health.
