On the effective dissemination and use of learning objectives catalogs for health information curricula development Passed

Catalogs of competency-based learning objectives (CLO) were introduced and promoted as a prerequisite for high-quality, systematic curriculum development. While this is common in medicine, the consistent use of CLO is not yet well established in epidemiology, biometry, medical informatics, biomedical informatics, and nursing informatics especially in Germany. This presentation and paper aims to identify underlying obstacles and give recommendations in order to promote the dissemination of CLO for curricular development in health data and information sciences. To determine these obstacles and recommendations a public online expert workshop was organized. This paper summarizes the findings.

Oliver J. Bott received his Ph.D. degree in Medical Informatics from Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany, in 2001. Since 2007 he is Professor for Medical Informatics of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hannover (HsH). He was the founding director of the E-Learning Services Center from 2011-13 and from 2014 to 2020 he was CIO respectively vice president for research, IT and information management at the HsH. As dean of studies and study programme coordinator, he accompanied the development and further development of several study programmes. He is a member of several advisory boards or executive committees of organisations dealing with medical informatics and, among other things, heads the Medical Informatics Curricula Working Group of the German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS).
His research and teaching activities focuses on information systems in healthcare and clinical research, especially architectural concepts and methods and tools for analyzing, developing and managing such systems, and on e-learning in medicine and medical informatics.
