openEHR consists of open specifications and clinical models for building healthcare and welfare information systems. This Master Class presents the problems openEHR addresses and how openEHR addresses them using its reference model and the clinical models that consist of archetypes and templates. It will further be explained how openEHR relates to other standards, how openEHR can be localised and implemented and how the organisation openEHR International and its surrounding community work.

Authors

Erik Sundvall
Erik Sundvall (PhD in Medical Informatics, MSc in IT). Erik has 16+ years of openEHR experience and is a member of the openEHR SEC that maintains the technical specifications. In Erik’s main job as Information Architect at Karolinska University Hospital he works with the transition from legacy to open systems, where standards like openEHR, HL7 FHIR and SNOMED CT are key ingredients. He also teaches and performs research as an affiliated researcher at Karolinska Institutet. and as an act. lecturer in Medical Informatics at Linköping University.

Silje Ljosland Bakke
Silje is a registered nurse and informatician, and has worked in health IT in the Norwegian hospital sector since 2009. She has been a leading figure in Norway's openEHR modelling, governance and training effort since 2013, and was co-lead for the openEHR Clinical Modelling Program from 2014-2021 and openEHR International board member from 2015-2021.

Åsa Skagerhult
Åsa Skagerhult is a Business Architect that has worked with health informatics, information architecture and openEHR for the last six years at Region Östergötland in Sweden. She is currently one of two product owners of openEHR Sweden, where she also has a special focus on the translation of openEHR to Swedish.

Mikael Nyström
Mikael Nyström has about twenty years of experience of working with openEHR and SNOMED CT in different roles in the academia, in the software industry and within standardization organisations. Currently he works as an informatician within Solution Management at the health and welfare information system vendor Cambio Healthcare Systems AB in Sweden. He is also a board member at openEHR International and openEHR Foundation and participate in an advisory group at SNOMED International.
