Many Nordic regions have invested in comprehensive EHR systems – robust platforms that deliver stability, coverage, and compliance across the care continuum. The next chapter is not about replacing them, but about extending their value. This keynote explores how healthcare organisations can evolve their existing EHR environments into open ecosystems that foster innovation, interoperability, and data-driven improvement.Drawing from real Nordic examples – including Karolinska University Hospital and Helsinki University Hospital – we’ll discuss how an open ecosystem built around the EHR can enable new workflows, connect data silos, and accelerate innovation through open standards such as openEHR and FHIR.You will gain insight into:How to transform an EHR from a closed system into a platform for collaborationHow to separate data from applications to unlock innovation without risking operationsHow AI and analytics can thrive when the right data foundation is in placeHow stepwise modernisation creates agility without abandoning existing investmentsWho it’s for: healthcare leaders, CIOs, CMIOs, IT architects, and clinical innovators seeking to bridge technology and clinical value.
Key takeaway: The EHR is not the end state – it’s the foundation of a living ecosystem that evolves with care itself.
