What are the key insights from this morning in AI in Precision Health in the Bay Area: from Stanford University and UC Berkeley?

While EHDS represents a landmark regulatory framework, its success hinges on our collective ability to transform fragmented, variable-quality health data into actionable insights that benefit patients, researchers, and healthcare systems. This panel brings together experts who have implemented practical solutions—from Luxembourg's implementation pathway and XpanDH project recommendations to cancer research initiatives and the development of ecosystem approaches—to discuss how we can make health data truly work across primary and secondary uses.

The European Health Data Space (EHDS) aims to improve access to and control over personal electronic health data in the context of healthcare. In addition,  establishing a common mechanism to access electronic health data for secondary use across the Union is a necessity for improving health care.

LTTS solution/presentation describes how connected care systems integrated with AI, is helping in  remote monitoring of patients, streamlined workflows, report generation, preventive, personalized health care. 

Dataspace4Health (DS4H) in Luxembourg showcases a practical pathway to implementing the European Health Data Space. By addressing critical health data challenges in diabetes and cancer, DS4H demonstrates how secure, compliant data ecosystems can enhance care delivery and advance research. This lecture will explore Luxembourg's current approach to primary and secondary use of data and federated data space frameworks through real-world healthcare applications.

How does research in AI in precision health translate to an impact for patient health in the Bay Area? Explore the XpanDH project’s key insights into implementing the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF) within the European Health Data Space (EHDS). This session highlights actionable strategies to foster interoperability, build trust, and drive digital health innovation across Europe.

AI is powerful tool for discovering new facts about the world, many too subtle for human eyes. I’ll give a few emerging examples of how AI-driven insights can help doctors treat patients better, and give researchers new puzzles to crack. This human–AI loop will create a new science of medicine, powered by data and computation, as well as enormous economic value.

Leveraging high-resolution 3D printing, we are redefining how treatments are administered, enhancing patient comfort, and driving better health outcomes. Our innovative microneedle array platform integrates real-time biomarker monitoring with controlled drug delivery, transforming disease prevention, treatment, and personalized medicine. By replacing traditional blood draws with painless, minimally invasive, and cost-effective 3D-printed microneedle patches, we enable biomarker sampling from interstitial fluid (ISF)—a rich source of molecular information comparable to blood. Beyond diagnostics, this microarray platform enables targeted, needle-free delivery of vaccines and therapeutics into the intradermal space, offering a scalable and adaptable approach to vaccination and treatments. Our goal is to advance precision health by making continuous monitoring and proactive care more accessible, beyond a hospital setting.
