102. Human rights and education during crises – focus on Ukraine Har passerat

Moderator: Karen da Costa
Paneldeltagare: Kamal Makili-Aliyev, Louise Nilsson, Mariya Yasenovska, Nataliya Berbyuk Lindström

The panel invites discussions on contemporary issues of implementation of human rights and education in times of crisis and emergency during active warfare. The focus of the panel will be on human-made conflicts, which create many challenges to the implementation of human rights. One of the aspects that presents a challenge in situations of humanitarian need is education. Fulfilling and realizing the right to education in general and human rights education specifically, ensures the proliferation and continuation of the implementation of human rights during times of war, and even after the emergency itself has passed. The ongoing war in Ukraine highlights the challenges of access to education at all levels of society, disruptions in the continuity of knowledge transfer and barriers to the exposure of populations to vital information about rights and freedoms. All that leads to less informed choices and policies in times when proper decision-making can be a choice between life and death.
