Roundtables

Together with the Dutch government, Business Sweden invites participants in the delegation to H2 Nordics & the Netherlands - Business Talks at World Hydrogen Summit. This events is specially targeting scale-ups and experienced entrepreneurs and businesses from the Nordics & the Netherlands.

Each thematic table will have ca. 10-12 participants from the Nordics and the Netherlands, and elaborate on mutual opportunities to cooperate within the hydrogen sector. Our table hosts are from companies in the Nordics or the Netherlands and are experts on the topic.

Table 1. MANUFACTERING ELECTROLYSERS AND FUEL CELLS

Electrolysers are a critical technology for producing low-emission hydrogen from renewable electricity. The sector is growing. The European Union installed about 80 MW in 2022 and approved funding to support its first hydrogen-related important project with a focus on hydrogen technologies, incl. incentives for electrolyser manufacturers. In the Nordics the demand for hydrogen is driven by industrial steel and e-fuel sectors. But it is still expensive to produce. Where can the Dutch and Nordic companies complement each other to increase supply & demand at reasonable costs?

Table 2.  INFRASTRUCTURE (NETWORK, STORAGE AND PORT- INFRA)

The hydrogen infrastructure is a crucial prerequisite for a successful commercialization of fuel cell technology. Both the port of Rotterdam and  Eemshaven have started developing hydrogen production capacity. They will secure access to carbon transport and storage capacity and offer low-carbon hydrogen. How can we leverage this knowledge, share experiences to support similar developments in the Nordics?

Table 3. MOBILITY (SHIPPING - MARITIME)

The maritime industry faces substantive challenges, driven by increasingly stricter air emissions and climate legislation. Green hydrogen has been identified has been identified as a ¨near-zero¨ carbon solution. Shipping has limited experience using hydrogen as fuel and some of the key technologies (like engines) remain under development. How can we together make use of our (land-based) hydrogen experience for the transition to a marine fuel?

Table 4. MOBILITY (HEAVY DUTY)

One of the solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from heavy-duty vehicle is the use of hydrogen. With the higher energy density with hydrogen, you will need fewer batteries on a truck. Refueling is also much quicker and enables operation flexibility. How can we cooperate in increasing the fueling infrastructure, improving accessibility?

Table 5. TRADE & INVEST (IMPACT ON TRADE)

The Nordic Hydrogen Valleys as Energy Hubs program will show the potential of hydrogen to become a zero-emission energy carrier in the Nordic countries. In the Netherlands hubs are concentrated around Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Zeeland, Groningen and Chemelot. How can we attract investors to accelerate production of hydrogen? What kind of experts/consultants are needed? How can the government support SMEs in the best way?

Participation in these roundtable sessions is coordinated by Business Sweden as part of the delegation programme. For more information, please contact Business Sweden.

Regional Business Developers (RBDs) support entrepreneurs (small, medium-sized and large enterprises), universities and research institutes in their ambitions to expand internationally in trade, investment or cooperation in international projects. The RBDs know about opportunities for trade, investment and R&D in the relevant region and have an extensive network in the Netherlands to present these opportunities to the right businesses. They are part of the embassy network in their region.

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) is a Dutch government agency under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, tasked with helping entrepreneurs and organisations to invest, develop and expand their businesses and projects both in the Netherlands and abroad.

InnovationQuarter is the regional economic development agency for the Province of Zuid-Holland, also known as the greater Rotterdam – The Hague area. Its mission is to strengthen the regional economic structure by stimulating the innovation potential of this unique delta region.

Business Sweden is Sweden's official trade and investment promotion agency, tasked by the Government of Sweden to help Swedish companies grow global sales and international companies to invest and expand in Sweden. The office in The Hague provides support and guidance to Swedish businesses seeking opportunities in the Dutch market, acting as a liaison to foster collaborations and enhance economic ties between the two countries.
