Women have been historically excluded from healthcare research and women’s health issues still receive inadequate attention, yet women live more years in poor health and with disability.Digital transformation and a rapidly growing global FemTech market provide new opportunities to transform the lives of millions of women globally and contribute to a substantial social impact and economic gains. However, research on FemTech that provide robust evidence on its value is lacking. In this seminar, based on our ongoing research, we will discuss opportunities and challenges of FemTech and why a rigorous research agenda with targeted research funding is needed. We will also address research methods that include multi-stakeholder partnerships, methods of intersectionality research to address health inequities, and co-creation models to engage women in the co-design of technologies to ensure person-centered outcomes.

Digital healthcare technologies (DTHs), including health apps, have brought with them a great potential to further develop healthcare services, but their introduction should follow the same criteria as other healthcare methods. The health technology assessment (HTA) supports decision-makers by producing the unbiased assessments of different type of health technologies. In Finland, the Digi-HTA process supports HTA activities for all types of DHTs, such as health apps, artificial intelligence and robotic solutions. In order to ensure that Digi-HTA would be as compatible as possible with other recognized assessment methods, the Finnish Coordinating Center for Health Technology Assessment (FinCCHTA) has carried out a comparison work that includes the DiGA and NordDEC assessment models and the CEN/ISO TS 82304-2:2021 technical specification.

The future success of moving to a smart hospital is understanding the risk. Risk should be an open transparent conversation between stakeholders of the future hospital. With an increase in interconnected devices that allow for more remote care the protection of the central brain of the hospital is critical. Change takes time and education. If we consider current cyber threats that healthcare as an industry faces one might ask what does it really mean to be secure? Security is not a permanent achievable state, it is temporal and fluid. Technology in healthcare is ever-changing and along with that there should be a clear understanding of the risks. Breaches happen almost daily around the world specifically within healthcare. As a highly targeted industry, how do we effectively deal with these breaches, what is the estimated downtime? This talk explores the current state of responses to breaches, and potential solutions with a focus on education and disaster planning for not if but when it happens.
