De höga kraven på omställning i arbetslivet gör att många personer med NPF-diagnoser står utan jobb, trots att de vill och kan arbeta. Detta samtidigt som samhället och arbetsgivarna skriker efter kompetens och är i behov av all den arbetskraft som finns tillgänglig. Offentlig statistik om situationen på arbetsmarknaden visar att sysselsättningen är klart lägre bland personer med funktionsnedsättning. Det är olyckligt för både individen, arbetsgivaren och samhället.
Många med funktionsnedsättning har det tufft att klara av alla de krav som finns på en arbetsplats. Upplevelser av stigmatisering och brist på förståelse för konsekvenserna av diagnoserna skapar rädsla för negativ särbehandling och diskriminering vilket gör att man inte vill berätta om sin diagnos. Vi vet även att personer med NPF i större utsträckning än befolkningen i stort är sjukskrivna på grund av arbetet. Vi ser med oro på dagens hårdnande arbetsklimat och hur personer med NPF ska klara av ett helt arbetsliv mot bakgrund av den arbetssituation som många med NPF har på grund av okunskap och stereotypa fördomar.
