Skellefteå is at the forefront of the green transition and is growing rapidly, faster than any other city in Sweden. The population growth is due to the establishment of Northvolt’s mega factory.  However welcomed, the population growth also brings challenges to the local community. Two out of three people moving to Skellefteå are men. Most of the men are moving in due to employment related to Northvolt while many of the women move in without an income of their own. This is unusual by Swedish standards.  If this trend continues it will create a tangible gender imbalance in Skellefteå, both in numbers and in purchasing power. This seminar will present Women Welcome; an initiative launched to counter this increasing imbalance.
