Are FHIR and OMOP parallel, complementary, or incompatible solutions for various use cases?
Wednesday May 21, 2025 15:30 - 15:45 A3
Lecturer: Christian Reich
Track: Health data
Problem space: There is a lot of buzz around the main standards in the field of medical informatics: FHIR and OMOP. They seem to be similar, but then are very different, in their use cases, in their approach to managing the structural and semantic space, in their way to operationalize and develop the standard, in their rigidity or flexibility, in their way to be adopted by a global community, in their way to measure success. Some folks are trying to move towards merger, convert from one to the other, usurp each others main use cases or even deny their raison d'etre.
