The session will provide an overview and description of the SNOMED International and the International Collaboration of Cancer Reporting (ICCR) collaboration, which has provided bindings between SNOMED CT and the ICCR templates for specific cancer types. The ICCR has developed cancer synoptic reporting templates covering all cancer domains. The aim is to standardise the data collected with the synoptic report, using standardised terminology. This supports the collection, sharing and reuse of data. The ICCR is recognised and supported globally by a large number of pathology organisations, and a large number of countries are already using the ICCR templates to record data.
The work to develop the bindings, was undertaken by a group of SMEs from both the ICCR and pathology domains, and SNOMED CT. The session will describe the development process, and also provide examples of the agreed bindings. The session will then cover the future developments, including global publication, release and maintenance and quality assurance.
By adding the bindings to the already published templates, the approach supports interoperability globally by providing a standardised terminology solution that is implementable with EHR and LIMS systems. In addition to the bindings, the work has also developed a clinical implementation guide to provide end-users and vendors examples of implementations within FHIR specifications.
