The triple Planetary Crisis, ie the climate change emergency, biodiversity loss and pollution, is a children’s rights crisis. The UN recognized children’s right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment in 2023, in a document called General comment 26. This document greens the UN Convention on the rights of the Child. It interprets States’ obligations under the Convention with green lenses and introduces environmental and climate language to children’s rights.
