International Council of Nurses (ICN) has supported the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP) since 1989, as related Classification in the WHO Family of International Classifications. The focus of the use of ICNP has been to support nursing research globally. SNOMED CT continues to grow as the major clinical terminology with EHRs at a global level. The drive for collaboration between the two standards is to ensuring that nurses and other users of ICNP remains connected to the wider health information landscape to support the safe delivery of multi-disciplinary care. To deliver this aspiration, it is acknowledged that SNOMED CT should continue to adequately reflect eveolving nursing practice. By this undertaking both ICNP and SNOMED CT benefit from alignment and quality assurance of content.

The presentation will provide the background to the collaboration from both organisations perspectives. We will provide specific detail on content solution provided, and initial feedback on its global usage. Finally, we will look to the future of this ongoing collaboration and how it will impact the delivery of nursing practice at a global, national and local level, using the Norwegian experience as a use case.
