Currently, Kanta provides a national e-health infrastructure and core information services. Kanta brings benefits for people, pharmacies and the social welfare and healthcare sector. Patient, social care customer/client and prescription data are collected in the centralized services. All services providers save the patient and prescription data in the Kanta service. The Kanta data content is available nationally, no matter where in Finland the client uses care services. Moreover, Kanta provides a portal for data access and a personal health record system for everyone. People can browse their own medical records and prescriptions in the portal, MyKanta Pages. MyKanta has proven to be extremely 
popular. Almost a fifth of all Finns use the service every month. The identity of each user is verified using strong electronic identification. The Kanta services will be expanded and become more versatile in compliance with users’ wishes, e.g., to support service integration. This requires development of national legislation.

To foster development, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has launched a new strategy for digitalisation and information management in healthcare and social welfare late 2023. The aim was to identify the strategic priorities arising from operational development needs. The four main objectives are: 1) Individuals are able to independently take care of their wellbeing, health and functional capacity with the support of information-based anticipation and digital services, 2) In all wellbeing services counties, digital channels are the primary choice whenever appropriate or for customers that are able to use digital services, 3) Professionals and customers have sufficient digitalisation competencies as well as access to the up-to-date data, and 4) Reliable, up-to-date and comparable information is available in a secure manner to benefit different use purposes.

Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) is part of the Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland. Among the investments, future digital innovations to promote access to care are introduced with a service design perspective. To illustrate Finnish current and future development approaches, some examples on digital solutions are presented.
