Biobanks and registries do not have the necessary resources to invest in external cooperation. The process to access samples is time consuming and discourage mid-size and start-ups to even try. Big pharma industry is hosting their own biobanks with limited access.
Existing biobanks have reported less than 10% utilisation rate of their samples and only 28% of biobanks worldwide have a formal business/sustainability plan.
There is a need for
Harmonisation: The increasing amount of products in development worldwide need a (sustainable) product validation.
Spreading awareness for utilisation of this resource to result in better healthcare.
Establish all of the above, sustainably
We would like to share our suggested solution to the above, a biobanks and health data portal including a training model on how to access bio banks and health data registries in Europe to facilitate innovation
With the political agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council of the EU on the European Health Data Space (EHDS), one of the central building blocks of a strong European Health Union is underway. Next step is that the European Parliament and the Council will formally adopt the new Regulation.
