Panelists: Alejandro Valencia , Carlos Beristaín , Fabian Salvioli
After more than 50 years of armed conflict, the FARC-guerrilla and the Colombian government signed a peace agreement in 2016. As a part of the agreement a system for transitional justice was formed, which consists in a truth commission, a court and a special instance for the search for missing people. The time frame for the truth commissions mandate expired in November 2021 and their final report was presented. Their mandate consisted in investigate and illuminate the central parts of the conflict, its causes and dynamics, as well as contributing to reconciliation and no repetition. The seminar focuses on the truth commission as a process and their conclusions and recommendations. Finally, the seminar connects the process to the present day context and looks ahead towards the goal; a sustainable peace in Colombia.
