Building Peace in Ukraine – The Role of Civil Society Before, During and After the War
Moderator: Lotta Sjöström BeckerPanelists: Michael Hjälm, Tetiana Kalenychenko
What is required to lay the foundation for a sustainable peace while the war is still ongoing? Despite a strong international focus on military and humanitarian support, there is growing recognition that peacebuilding cannot wait until a ceasefire or peace agreement is in place.
This panel discussion highlights how civil society actors are already working to strengthen social cohesion, trust and justice in a Ukraine marked by the consequences of war. The conversation connects to broader global experiences of peace processes and explores the challenges that arise when armed conflict transitions into reconstruction. How can local initiatives be given space and influence? What role should international actors play? And how can peace perspectives be integrated into ongoing support efforts?
