The art of producing hand-blown flat glass has become a rare craft. In Lamberts glassworks, founded in 1906, the glassmakers have preserved and perfected these traditional production methods. With 70 employees and an export rate of over 75 percent, the medium-sized company from Northern Bavaria is Germany's only manufacturer and at the same time the world market leader. The main products are the hand-blown window glass and more than 5000 different colored glasses. A particular specialty are the two- or multi-colored overlaid glasses, which are complex to produce. Hand-cast Dall and table cathedral glass complete the special offer.

The production takes place individually, sheet by sheet - today just as in the old days. After the melting master has put together the right recipe and the glass has been refined in the furnace overnight, the most important and difficult processing stage begins. To do this, the teams work on a furnace, each made up of a ‘starter’, a assistant and a master glassmaker. The starter brings the liquid glass to the pipe by turning the glassmaker's pipe in the melting pot. He repeats the process until he has the required amount of glass. By turning and blowing into wooden molds at the same time, he gives the glass ball the right shape. Then he hands everything over to the master glassmaker, who blows up the glass ball to its final size. It requires a high degree of experience, strength and skill to move the large glowing glass so evenly that a homogeneous cylinder is created. This is then cut open, reheated and ironed out to form a glass sheet. A special cooling phase makes the glass very easy to cut and process.

With no other production method can a similar brilliance, structure and diversity be achieved as is the case with hand-blown flat glass.

Original LambertsGlas® is at home all over the world. The mouth-blown and handcrafted glasses refine light in countless buildings - in the sacred and profane, in the public and private areas.
