Senior Research Scientist
STIM

H. William Harris M.D. Ph.D. (Bill) – Dr. Harris is a former medical research physician at Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA USA. In 2005, he transitioned to entrepreneurship in aquaculture technology upon discoveries showing that a specialized type of molecular sensor called the calcium sensing receptor (CaSR) was a salinity sensor in fish. With these discoveries, Bill led the team that developed the SuperSmolt process used for smoltification of Atlantic salmon. Subsequently, he was involved in R&D efforts focused on improvements in recirculating aquaculture systems as well as the creation of sustainable plant-based feed ingredients for commercial aquafeeds. Recently, he has joined STIM (www.stim.no) as a Senior Research Scientist Consultant where he is using knowledge of CaSR-based molecular sensors to design and implement new technologies related to smoltification, nephrocalcinosis and land-based hatchery rearing practices.
