OMOP in Sweden - A movement on a mission to integrate the OMOP Common Data Model into the Swedish health data ecosystem
Tuesday May 5, 2026 09:15 - 09:45 Vitalis Plaza
Lecturers: Christian Högberg, Jordan Kane, Lars LindsköldTrack: Operationalising OMOP in the Nordic Health Data Ecosystem
Sweden has an opportunity to use OMOP not only as a technical data model, but as a reusable analytics layer that supports harmonisation, federated evidence generation, and collaboration across national and international health data ecosystems. OMOP 4 Sweden is a growing movement with a clear mission—to establish the OMOP Common Data Model as a formal and sustainable part of the Swedish health data ecosystem.
This session provides an update on progress to date in mobilising OMOP in Sweden and sets out a practical vision for how OMOP can contribute to the Swedish and Nordic health data ecosystems, in alignment with EHDS and the needs of national strategic investments requiring access to health data. It explores how progress depends on both top-down leadership and bottom-up engagement, combining national strategies, policy alignment, and institutional support with grassroots innovation driven by clinicians, researchers, and data practitioners.
Discover how coordinated efforts at all levels can accelerate standardisation, strengthen interoperability, and enable the effective reuse of health data. We will share ongoing initiatives, lessons learned, and practical pathways for both organisations and individuals to contribute to making OMOP a natural part of Sweden’s health data infrastructure.
Come and join the movement!

I want to improve patient care by driving better use of health data:
I design and implement frameworks for privacy, curation, and analysis of health data.
And I manage technology and culture projects that improve health data analysis.
I earned my PhD in rare disease and have worked across commercialisation in medicines, digital health and RWE, including supporting the design and implementation of health data analytics platforms and networks in Asia and Europe.
