Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Region Västra Götaland have worked systematically to develop capacity for AI in healthcare. This presentation describes how the region approaches AI strategy, what organizational structures have been established to support implementation and how the organization works to prioritize initiatives and move AI solutions from pilot to clinical practice. Participants will gain insights into governance models, key enablers and barriers, and lessons learned from building sustainable AI capacity across a regional healthcare system.

Magnus Kjellberg is the Director of the AI Competence Center at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and is heading the AI-office at Region Västra Götaland in Sweden. Magnus holds a PhD in Life Science and has 20+ years of experience in applying data and AI methods in various sectors, including pharmaceutical research and healthcare innovation. He is responsible for and coordinates the strategic and tactical efforts within AI in the organisations which includes national and international initiatives.
