PANEL: Who Signs Off on AI in Healthcare

Wednesday May 6, 2026 09:15 - 10:00 YE - lokal ej bestämd

Moderator: Dmitry Etin
Panelists: Elia Lima-Walton, MD, PA, Michael Bouzinier, Tiago Taveira Gomes

Track: Trustworthy data for trustworthy AI

When AI systems are tested in pilots, trust is often implicit and responsibility diffuse. Once AI influences real clinical decisions, that changes. Leaders are asked to sign off on systems that evolve over time, depend on complex data pipelines and may fail in ways that are hard to predict. This panel focuses on that transition point, where AI stops being an experiment and becomes institutional infrastructure.

Drawing on experience from mature clinical organisations and university hospitals, the discussion explores how sign-off works in practice. Who decides that an AI system is ready for production use? What role do data quality, provenance and monitoring play once models are live? How are staff prepared to work with AI systems that may be right most of the time, but not always?

Rather than revisiting strategy or regulation in isolation, the panel concentrates on organisational reality. It examines accountability, escalation and evidence from a leadership perspective and highlights where trust most often breaks as AI scales. Participants will leave with a better understanding of what it actually means to approve and operate AI responsibly in healthcare settings.
