Fimlab is Finland’s largest healthcare laboratory company that produces laboratory services as well as training and research in the wellbeing services counties of Pirkanmaa, Kanta-Häme, Central Finland, Päijät-Häme and Ostrobothnia. The main owners of Fimlab are the wellbeing services counties of Pirkanmaa, Kanta-Häme, Central Finland, Päijät-Häme and Ostrobothnia.
FImlab laboratory has long played a role in the public procurement of blood glucose meters and in ensuring the quality of the meters. Devices used in diabetes self-care have developed rapidly in recent years. Sensors that continuously measure tissue glucose have replaced glucose self-monitoring based on capillary measurements, especially in insulin-deficient diabetics. Insulin pumps based on sensorization and utilizing automatic insulin dosing facilitate diabetic self-care. Treatment balance is assessed based on the self-monitoring data produced by the devices. However, the self-monitoring data produced by the devices is scattered in device-specific cloud services. The data protection and information security of cloud services require assessment, and information relevant to treatment is not automatically transferred to other patient treatment data.
As part of the support services it provides, Fimlab has developed a new software, the Self-Measurement Application, for the use of its wellbeing county customers. The Self-Measurement Application is an application developed for diabetes professionals that enables the collection of self-measurement data from device-specific cloud services onto the same platform alongside laboratory test results and the automatic transfer of data to the patient information system. In addition to the patient-specific benefit, the Self-Measurement Application enables device lifecycle management and statutory traceability and provides the customer organization with information on the costs of devices and the effectiveness of different device treatments for data management.
The Self-Measurement Application is part of Fimlab's laboratory information system. Together with diabetes device suppliers, Fimlab has developed SSO login and data integrations from the Self-Measurement Application to device suppliers' cloud services. Data integration enables the transfer of the most relevant average results for treatment as part of other laboratory results. SSO login makes it easier for professionals to move to device suppliers' cloud services, where more detailed reports can be viewed. Fimlab does not compete with device suppliers' cloud services but enables the integration of the supplier's cloud service into the healthcare ICT ecosystem.
The quality of diabetes care is monitored nationally and internationally in order to enable patients to live healthier years and to use scarce healthcare resources efficiently. The self-monitoring application aims to enable healthcare organizations to monitor information that is essential for the quality and effectiveness of care. The self-monitoring application, which is developed centrally for use in several welfare areas, enables cost-effective development work. By developing integrations from the cloud services of diabetes device suppliers centrally to Fimlab's Self-Measurement application, which is integrated into the regions' patient information systems, a single integration can cover several patient information system integrations. Self-Monitoring application is a hub to combine glucometrics from multiple diabetes cloud services.
