Päivi Rajala-Schultz (DVM, PhD, Dipl ACVPM) is an internationally recognized veterinary epidemiologist and a professor of Milk Hygiene at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at University of Helsinki, Finland. She has her DVM degree from the College of Veterinary Medicine in Finland and her PhD from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, USA. After defending her PhD on “Effects of diseases on milk yield and culling of dairy cows” at Cornell, she joined the faculty at the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University and spent the next 15 years of her academic career at OSU. Her research interests are in epidemiology of dairy production diseases, especially in udder health and milk quality, with particular focus on dry cow management and dry cow therapy. Dry cow management is also the topic of her lectures at the Swedish Veterinary Convention.
