Food and beverage retail sales is a nearly trillion dollar industry in the US that experienced a 9% growth in just one year in 2020. Health foods in particular are rising in demand - the US holds about 30% of the global market value for health and wellness foods, or around 220 billion dollars.

Several recent shifts due to rising inflation costs, supply chain shifts, and rapidly changing consumer behavior are causing brands to explore new ideas, partnerships, and business models. 

Common barriers for international brands

The process to get on a shelf in a major US retailer can be complex, confusing, and costly. In addition, the supply chain, cost structure and partners required to get listed at US grocery stores differ significantly from that of European stores. Market research and preparedness is especially important to stand out in this highly competitive environment.

Program in brief: Accelerated local partnerships

To combat common learning curves, Business Sweden has developed a US Grocery Retail Bootcamp to help Swedish food and beverage companies bypass these common hurdles. This virtual program is designed to kickstart your US go-to-market strategy with hands-on advice, insights on the local retail and distribution landscape, and matchmaking sessions to start building local partnerships.

Benefits and program elements

The Bootcamp will take place in October and November of 2023 and consist of:

  • 4 interactive workshops on the topics of value proposition, regulatory & compliance, sales & marketing, distribution, and financing
  • 1-on-1 coaching sessions to guide you through the workshops and prepare for partner meetings
  • 1-on-1 introductions and meetings with 3 potential partners of the company’s choosing, including FDA consultants, brokers, distributors, or 3PLs
