The Global Automotive Stocktake Video on demand

Wednesday December 6, 2023 10:00 - 10:40 +04 Swedish Pavilion

Partner: Polestar

The course of the car industry from today until 2030 will play a key role in staying within the 1.5-degree limit of global warming. But the path we’re on will not get us to where we need to go.

To get back on track, we need a roadmap. This is why Polestar created the Pathway Report, together with Rivian and Kearney.

The report finds that the passenger vehicle industry, which currently stands for 15% of emissions globally, is set to have spent its carbon budget already in 2035 and is on track to overshoot by 75% in 2050.

The report goes on to identify three levers the car industry needs to pull to get on track:

  • Fossil fuel-powered cars need to be replaced by electric cars by 2032.
  • 100% renewable energy in power grids by 2033.
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the supply chain with 81% by 2032.

Polestar and the panel participants will discuss further GPS coordinates guiding the car industry towards reaching the 1.5-degree limit.
