I graduated in 1974 with a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Melbourne, studying alloys by X-ray and neutron diffraction, and including an exchange year in the USA. After holding academic and industrial research positions in Norway, Australia and Scotland, I began at NIOM in 1998. In 2002, we at NIOM and SINTEF developed a method for digitizing dental impressions taken during a 15-year, longitudinal study of inlays. Since 2013, I have been convenor of the working group within international standardization (ISO) for dental digitizing devices.
