Kanar Alkass, PhD
A scientist at the National Borad of Forensic medicine, Stockholm.
PhD thesis work focused on tooth analysis to facilitate the identification of unknown deceased persons, or unidentified human remains, both in the routine casework and in mass disasters.
These investigations can provide very valuable information; year of birth, year of death, sex, and geographical origin of the unknown individual. The methods include bomb-pulse derived radiocarbon incorporation in the enamel and dentin of teeth, stable isotope analysis, such as 13C and 18O, and aspartic acid racemization analysis.
