Prototypes of the future
A conversation with Fabien Capello
What does an object do to us and what does it say about the community where it was made? French designer Fabien Capellos work ranges from limited edition furniture to the design of public spaces. With a deep interest in objects and our material culture, his studio is influenced by the complexity of the Mexican material culture where they are now based, making the most of its resources while exploring the notion of locality.
He recently created a limited edition series for Swedish producer Hem and his small water cans project sold out on Jasper Morrisons shop in London in no time. The recent exhibition - “objects of resistance” at Zaventem Ateliers outside Brussels - included 340 objects gathered from around central Mexico. He refers to the objects as “prototypes of the future.”
