Autocratization gone viral Passed

Tuesday December 7, 2021 17:00 - 17:45 Kongresshallen

Lecturer: Staffan I Lindberg

According to statistics presented  by the Variety of Democracy Institute, University of Gothenburg, 68 percent of the world's population now live in non-democratic states. Democracies continue to decline and is now comparable to the situation in 1990.

More and more people live in autocratizing countries -  where governments control the media, restrict academic freedom and civil society, feed polarization by disrespecting political opponents and spread disinformation. It then attacks formal institutions such as elections or courts. The threat against liberal and constitutional democracies is rising and it comes from within.
