Proximar is a Norwegian land-based salmon farming company which will build the first large scale land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) for production of Atlantic Salmon in Japan. The company was established in 2015, and has spent the last 5 years to develop the plans and decided on suppliers. The company has chosen Japan as its market due to the high prices which are a result of high transport and logistic cost for bringing fresh Atlantic Salmon to the country. Proximar aims to harvest its first fish in 2024, with an annual production of ~5k tonnes in phase 1 which is expected to increase to ~26k tonnes within 2029e.
Proximar started construction of phase 1 later this year in 2022, with first eggs expected in the tanks in Q3 2022 and fist harvest in Q2 2024. We expect the harvest volumes in 2024 to be around 4.3k tonnes, with further production growth driven by increased production per m3 due to higher density in the tanks, and we expect volumes to reach 5.3k tonnes in 2026
Proximar will use a RAS technology delivered by AquaMaof, which is an Israeli system provider with more than 30 years of experience within aquaculture. Aquamaof has developed systems solutions for own fish farming operations in Israel with strong focus on minimizing water use and electricity due to strict such constraints in the country.
