Austevoll Seafood

Austevoll Seafood is a globally integrated pelagic fishery and seafood company. Austevoll Seafood was established in 1981 and is headquartered at Storebø on Austevoll outside Bergen. In 1991 Austevoll entered into pelagic wild catch in Chile and started expanding within the pelagic sector in Norway.

Austevoll has fishery quotas in Peru, Chile and Norway and conducts its operations through subsidiaries such as Foodcorp in Chile and Austral in Peru. Austevoll holds 6.9% of the anchovy quota in North/Central Peru and 9.1% of the quotas for jack mackerel fisheries in Chile. Through a 50-50 joint-venture agreement with Kverva in Pelagia, Austevoll are also the biggest processor of pelagic fish in the North Atlantic, with production facilities along the Norwegian coast, in Denmark, UK and Ireland.

Key activities include catch and processing of pelagic fish (anchovy, mackerel, herring, etc.) for both human consumption and fishmeal and oil production. However, salmon farming, through its 53% ownership in Lerøy Seafood Group and ownership in Br. Birkeland, has become the most important part of the group.

The company secured a position in Lerøy Seafood Group (LSG) in 2007 through the sale of its salmon farming activities to LSG. In 2008 the company increased its stake in Lerøy, triggering a mandatory bid, where Austevoll secured a 75% holding. The holding was later reduced to 63% through a secondary placement in 2009 and further down to 52.7% in 2016 through both a secondary placement of Austevoll’s LSG shares and a private placement that Austevoll did not take part in. Austevoll are also involved in salmon farming through Br.Birkeland, a company with 7 farming licenses in Hordaland.

Austevoll Seafood was listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange in 2006. The founding Møgster family holds a 55.6% stake in Austevoll through its ownership company Laco. Other major investors are large Norwegian and international institutional investors.
