Multi X is a leading Chilean salmonid farmer, with a history dating back to 1983. The company began as a processor, buying salmon from third parties, and in 1989, Multiexport expanded into salmon farming. Today, the company is one of the largest salmonid farmers in Chile, with harvest volumes of 99.1k tonnes WFE in 2020. Of this, ~95% is Atlantic salmon and ~5% Coho, with 2020 being the last year with Coho production.
The company has recovered its volumes significantly after the algae bloom in 2016, increasing volumes from 61k tonnes in 2016, to 82k tonnes in 2018 and up to an 99k tonnes in 2020. With the latest increased driven by the investments in Region XII where it harvested 18k tonnes in 2020. The company expect some reduction in 2021 due to lower volumes in Region XII and guides for a total of 92k tonnes WFE, with 7k tonnes coming from region XII. In 2022 volume are expected to increase again, with a total of 103k tonnes whereof 19k tonnes from Region XII.
Multiexport is by far the largest Chilean exporter of smoked salmon. The company’s smoked products plant has the capacity and is equipped to produce a wide range of products. Multiexport prepares cold-smoked and hot-smoked products, and has been a recurring winner of the Gold Medal for smoked recipe of the American Flavor Institute.
