Arbaflame is a bio-tech company, which has developed, patented and verified a production method for biomass pellets with similar characteristics as coal. The ArbaCore pellet can thus replace coal in existing facilities, reducing CO2 emissions by >90% at a fraction of the conversion capex compared to white pellets.

The company’s history dates back to before 2010 and the technology has been verified at 14 full-scale power plants operated by nine different utility companies across the world. Arbaflame has already built a full-scale commercial plant, ArbaOne, located outside of Kongsvinger, Norway. The plant has an annual capacity of 70,000 tonnes of ArbaCore, in addition to high-value bio-chemicals including furfural, methane and methanol. The share of bio-chemicals is targeted to increase through future R&D programmes. Arbaflame is working with leading research institutes and partners, including UiB, NTNU, Sintef, TNO and the Research Council of Norway.
