Develop an understanding of the real challenges women face and how these manifest in the organisational context.


Leadership lessons that you’ll learn from this session:

  • Women face a unique set of challenges when progressing into senior leadership positions, including unconscious bias, a scarcity of role models, and a peer group that continually shrinks the more senior they become. These can make striving for the top a lonely and frustrating endeavour even in organisations with the best intentions to support their top female talent.
  • Organizations are awash with myths about why fewer women than men reach senior leadership levels. It is vital to develop an understanding of the real challenges women face and how these manifest in your context.
  • What holds women back is a complex web of systemic, cultural, and structural issues that must be understood before they can be overcome.

Svenja’s writing and practice aims to develop responsible and effective leaders by helping them understand and work with the systems psychodynamics of their work and institutions. That is, how leaders’ experiences and ambitions, as well as the pushes and pulls of their surroundings, shape who they are and how they act. Her directing, teaching, and coaching draw on extensive experience in multinational corporations, as well as her academic background in clinical and organisational psychology.​

Svenja’s current work focuses on supporting leadership transitions in general, and those of women leaders in particular. For the past decade, she has been involved in the design and delivery of educational and coaching programmes for women high-potential and executives, that take into account both individual and systemic challenges women leaders face.​
