Material handling is a major emission source in the mining industry due to fossil fuels and/or electricity consumption. A case study for a coal mine in Türkiye highlighted the potential reduction of GHG emissions by using discrete event simulation for haul trucks. The change in the mine plan and an optimal truck fleet resulted in considerably decreased fuel usage and traffic on the mine roads aiding the mitigation of GHG emissions.
