Volue delivers software to tackle the increased complexity associated with higher shares of renewable energy input in the electric power value chain. It offers a digital wall-to-wall platform, covering all supply chain activities from analysis and forecasting, optimisation of planning and operating to monetising by trading and settlement. In March 2020, after over 20 years of building a solid reputation in the European power market, Powel merged with Wattsight, Markedskraft and Scanmatic to form Volue. Together the four legacy companies serve 2,000 customers across 44 countries, including some of the largest power producers in the world and 90% of its domestic power production and distribution market.

Rapid increase in general society electrification globally, combined with variable renewable energy sources taking shares from fossil fuels in electricity production, amplifies Volue’s accessible market. The scene is set for substantial organic growth of existing accounts. In addition, the European power market is dominated by large, conservative power companies, more willing to use well known service providers than to give new entrants a chance. Volue eyes the chance to act as a consolidator within the fragmented power service market and has acquired two companies during its first six months after establishment.

Where the power producers previously could plan production weeks ahead, or even months, the time available has shrunk to minutes, driven by a boom in variable renewable energy sources. Power and grid companies must solve the power imbalance created by volatile power inputs to create value. The need for a company providing wall-to-wall digitalisation throughout the value chain has emerged. Such a company as not been seen before – until now. Four Arendals Fossekompani subsidiaries have merged into one in order to capitalise on their complementary services and create a unique company.
