To confront the climate crisis, the world needs a range of clean energy technologies that are not yet available or cost-competitive in commercial markets. There is a narrow window between now and 2030 to demonstrate and commercialize innovative technologies so they are available for massive scale-up to enable net-zero emissions by 2050. This session will showcase tangible examples of public-private collaboration to scale transformation near zero technology to decarbonize “hard to abate” industries.

Launched at COP26 by US President Biden and the World Economic Forum, the First Movers Coalition is a flagship public-private partnership harnessing the purchasing power of top companies to decarbonise “hard to abate” industries.

This session aims to: Share new developments on First Movers Coalition program

  • Highlight innovative action taken by FMC members in hard to abate industries
  • Identify key actions taken by governments to enable emerging near-zero technologies
  • Hold an engaging conversation on what public-private engagement is further needed to enable development of critical near-zero technologies by 2030
