Humanity has a limited window in which we can hope to avoid the worst effects of climate change. Most, if not all, people in the Western world need to change their behaviour drastically for us to reach net-zero emissions. What has been lacking to do so is access to information on what one’s individual lifestyle footprint is, but we now have the ability to democratise access to this type of data.

But even though conspicuous consumption and excessive lifestyle habits make up a great proportion of the global footprint, an individual change in behaviour won’t solely solve the climate crisis. We also need to link individual consumption to industrial level emissions, so individuals and industry together can achieve change at scale. The two need to be triangulated, particularly without necessary regulation for environmental calculations currently in place.

In this seminar, we will discuss individual versus industrial change and who’s responsible for reaching global net-zero emissions.
