WPU - Waste Plastic Upcycling A/S Presenting Company
Presentation
Waste Plastic Upcycling is a company using pyrolysis technology to convert end-of-use plastics into valuable oil products. Pyrolysis can be used to treat polymers that have exhausted their potential for mechanical recycling or otherwise cannot be recycled.WPU has developed a batch technology and batch pyrolysis processes are far easier to construct and operate compared to other pyrolysis processes. The pyrolysis facilities can process batches containing almost all kinds of plastic waste – homogeneous and nonhomogeneous. It creates a stable production and limits the resources needed for waste sorting before the pyrolysis process. The plastic oils can be used in the production of new plastic products or as fuels.
WPU's first plastic-to-liquid facility is situated in Fårevejle, Denmark. The Fårevejle facility is projected to have an intake capacity of about 30 thousand tonnes per year. This compares to the 370 thousand tonnes of annually incinerated plastic in Denmark. Upon successful production at Fårevejle, WPU is planning to build two additional plants, aggregating the company's plastic waste intake capacity to 160 thousand tonnes by 2024.
WPU has signed letters of intent with four large suppliers of feedstock, providing the company with access to large sources of waste plastic. The company has also entered into an offtake agreement with the Vitol Group (one of the largest energy and commodity traders globally) whereby Vitol has agreed to purchase all oil produced at the WPU's three production facilities for the next three years.
