Evaluating evidence-based digital therapies through national quality frameworks
Thursday May 7, 2026 13:30 - 14:00 A1
Lecturer: Jukka LähesmaaTrack: Från fragmentering till gemensam kvalitet – så skapar vi jämlik tillgång till hälsoappar
Finland has established a national quality framework for health apps - digiHTA, and is now piloting the use of digital therapies within publicly funded healthcare. The aim of the trial is to determine how digital therapies – such as evidence-based digital therapies and self-care programs – could be made available to users with public funds. The trial will offer healthcare professionals and their patients the opportunity to try out for free how digital treatments support holistic treatment success.
During the trial, an evaluation and summary of the operating model and the experiments conducted will be created. In addition, recommendations will be made on how the digital care concept is suitable for Finnish healthcare. All digital solutions are evaluated using the national evaluation digiHTA framework during the pilot.
At the end of the experiment, a final report will be prepared by the end of 2026. The report will compile the assessments and present national recommendations for action. The aim is to describe the development needs for a permanent operating model and present scenarios for possible reimbursement models in the future.
